Yesterday as I was driving through a small town I thought about what an everyday thing it must be for the people that live here. It’s very interesting to drive along and see all the pretty towns and landscapes that are so amazing to me, but I wonder what it’s like for them? I thought about it and came up with a good thought.
Taking our suroundings for granted made makes me think about how “used” to things we can get when we are around them for a while. Maybe the amazing things other people see, we miss because we grow up with them so they are not as “Amazing” or as “attractive” to us. Which is to be expected, but I wonder if we don’t fall into the same habit with the people around us. Do we take them for granted? I don’t want to preach too much, because I know I do the same thing myself, but this has taught me a lesson. In the relationships we have with people it might be easy to “get used” to them… nothing special you know? We should not let ourselves get caught up in that. Instead, we should continually look for the unique features that continue to surface. Not only is it important in relationships with people, but it’s important in life. If we allow ourselves to get used to our surroundings then we are in the perfect postition to be lost when something does change and we don’t see it till it’s a little too late.
I have seen a lot of paintings and different forms of art and it has made me see some interesting perspectives. A lot of paintings are descriptive, creative and artistic. They evoke verying emotions depending on the theme and the feelings of the author as they painted. Unlike paintings how ever, people are continually changing; painting different “colors” through actions, attitudes and emotions. Through the colors that form us people see the art tha we really are. It’s very important that we not only paint the right colors, but that we pay attention to the other “paintings” around us. We need to pay attention to the people around us and not allow our relationships to become old or boring, but treat them with the respect we would a beautiful picture or painting. God has made us to be works of art for Him and we need to be just that. A work of art that conveys through every known color that we love God. People are ever changing works of art and they surround us everyday! By paying attention and being perceptive we can interpret, reflect and act upon the works of art God has created.
One last thought… God created each of us to be an amazing work of art and whether we see that or not does not change that fact. We need to make sure that we choose to hand God the brush and allow Him to paint our life so we can become the work of art that He has created us to be; attracting those who are paying attention and catching the eyes of others who aren’t. Every color counts… What colors are you painting?
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful. I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
GREAT POST.
It was an epiphany, reading your thoughts Skylar. That was one of the best things next to scripture that I’ve read this week. Thank you. I will be tweeting this so you may get more pastors looking at your words!! Awesome job and cool observation and deduction. ROck on Skylar,
