A while back I was really moved by the song “Lord of Lords” and wrote down a thought about it, but never finished it. I was hit by another thought today and I found this draft and thought it was time that I finished it.
“Lord of Lords”
Beholding Your beauty
Is all that I long for
To worship You Jesus
Is my sole desire
For this very heart
You have shaped for be your pleasure
Purposed to lift Your Name higher
Here in surrender
In pure adoration
I enter Your courts
With an offering of praise
I am Your servant
Come to bring You glory
As is fit for the work of Your hands
[Chorus 1:]
Now unto the Lamb
Who sits on the throne
Be glory and honor and praise
All of creation resounds with the song
Worship and praise Him
The Lord of lords
Spirit now living
And dwelling within me
Keep my eyes fixed
Ever on Jesus’ face
Let not the things of this world
Ever sway me
I’ll run ’til I finish the race
I watched the Passion of the Christ for the first time this summer with a very good friend of mine. After a very moving night I had a lot on my heart. The next morning we played this song and with all that was on my heart I was definitely challenged. The death of Jesus was nothing short of brutal. As I sat watching what happened to Jesus that night I was taken aback by “The Passion” Jesus had. Even as He was being nailed to the cross He was praying to His father for their forgiveness. When I picture Jesus on the cross I think of pain, but I also think of beauty! How beautiful His love was for us, how beautiful His heart was! He went through pain that we can’t even imagine for people that would reject Him AND accept Him.
It sure is a challenge sometimes to live a life in surrender to our Father in Heaven. To live a life in pure adoration of our God is beyond my grasp. What does that even look like? Jesus adored His Father, even on the cross… He knew it was all for His daddy. I want to live a life like that. A life where nothing is of higher importance or value than to bring my daddy glory and to see His name lifted up. When the Spirit moves in my heart it creates this surge of joy and passion that I don’t know what to do with. I often experience this feeling when I am in fellowship with other believers singing His praise. What if that joy, that passion, that Spirit filled experience was with us every moment of the day, guiding us, speaking to us and giving us every amount of strength we needed to face every challenge. That’s what I feel my heart pulled to do. It should just be Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings that we feel that surge of love for our King. We need to feel that all the time, that needs to be our habit. We are not perfect, but what can this world do to us that Jesus Christ our King can’t over come with His mighty hands? Nothing! This is not a new message or a epiphany that no one has heard before, but it’s the truth and one that we need to take more seriously. If we really love Jesus and long to see his glory then beholding His beauty is all we should long for… Because He IS the LORD OF LORDS!
