I was thinking the other day about how the interactions we have affect our life. Small things like seeing the lady at the gas station, a person with a sad expression, or even saying on a shirt that you don’t agree with all affect us. It’s really interesting to me how our days is are formed and how the little things can easily turn things around. It’s never a for sure thing like we plan it out to be. There are always distractions or interventions that come along that change our attitude, our emotions or our life. Interactions form our day, whether it’s our interaction with people, food, Facebook or music; it all affects us and creates our life!
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self controlled; set your hope fully on the grace given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” - 1 Peter 1:13
Back in 8th grade I wrote an essay for english about this topic and I said something very profound, “Our actions make a difference!” The paper wasn’t all that great, but the last sentence I wrote was brought back to me as I was thinking about this. As Christians we live by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) and I think we should maybe take that verse a step further and apply it to the daily events around us. When we plan out our day we shouldn’t just plan to fit in what we want to get done, we should also plan on God fitting in what He wants done too. We may not think about it a lot, but God has our days planned and numbered. He intercedes in so many ways during our day I think we would be amazed to find out what if we could understand all He did or prevented.
“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His son, purifies us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7
God’s supreme authority over time is something we should not take lightly because God should never be taken lightly. As we follow Him throughout each day let’s remind ourselves that it’s not ”our” day, but “His” day. We need to direct more attention towards that, because the way God works is amazing and when He is working through us we become amazing too! I wonder if we are even aware of half the things God does through us on a day-to-day basis. Do we really grasp how big of a deal our actions and words are and how much they can affect people?
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
My challenge is this… Everything we do matters and affects someone. What we say is as important as what we do and both are powerful things that can change lives. As you go out this week taking each step of life in faith, make sure it’s God that you are living for and that you are focused on what you do and how you interact with people. God loves interaction with us and we need to make sure that we allow Him to work in every moment of our lives. When we allow God to interact through us amazing things can happen!
“Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom…” James 2:12
