“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”
- Jesus Christ
Growing up one of the many children’s songs I learned was “He’s got the whole world.” I was reminded of the verse “He’s got the whole world in His hands” today when a bird hit our window and I went to its rescue. It was extremely helpless and tiny; as I picked it up it flinched and was pretty much scared out of its mind. Looking at it sitting there completely vulnerable to everything hardly moving made me think about how helpless and little we are in God’s hands.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” – David in Psalms
In the whole universe how big our God must me! I thought about the little chickadee and how it was probably flying happily along and didn’t even see what hit him and then he was on the ground in need of some extreme help. So many times we walk through life oblivious to what is about to hit us and once it does we are left laying there like that little bird in need of dire help! God is so big and amazing compaired to anything in this world. He is always there to pick us up!
“The lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with His love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17
As I held the tiny chickadee in my hand I looked into his eyes and I saw a look of dependent trust. Like he understood that I was helping him (Or maybe he was still in shock and thought I was a tree). I wonder if when God picks us up, when we are helpless and hurt, if we don’t give Him that same look. That look of not really knowing, but believing. I think we should thank God for holding the whole world in His hands and for reaching down and picking us up when we fall down. For giving us comfort in our times of need and for being Him-self for us. To Him be the glory for His amazing love!
“Yet if you devote your heart to Him and stretch out your hands to Him, if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, then you will lift up your face with out shame; you will stand firm and with out fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.” – Job 11:13-16
When we are hit by things in life that we didn’t see coming, whose hands are we going to be in? Who’s going to help us up and give us renewed hope? I challenge you to make sure that God is the one that you are trusting and that His hands are the ones that you find your trust in. God’s got the whole world in His hands….how amazing that He would take time to hold you as well!
